Description
No. 1 Balustrade is a former tollhouse, later a shop, and now offices, located at the left end of a terrace. It was built around 1820-1830 and has been altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a hipped slate roof with no stacks.
The plan consists of three units and tapers at the west end, where the corners are slightly recessed. The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical front that has three windows. There is a platband above banded rustication on the ground floor, and the windows consist of three-over-three pane sash windows at both the front and rear, with one window at the west end. The ground floor has shop windows flanking a central door. The rear of the building also has three first floor windows similar to those at the front. The interior has not been inspected.
