Description

This is an irregular terrace of two houses, now shops, situated on a curved corner. They were likely designed by H.E. Goodridge and built between 1827 and 1830, with a lease relating to No. 4 dated 1831. The building was altered around 1903 and late in the 20th century. The terrace has a double-depth plan.

The exterior features four storeys, including an attic, with a five-window front. Architectural details include a parapet, cornice, lintel band, and sill band. There are sash windows with three/six panes to the attic and six/six panes to the second and first floors. The first-floor windows, at either end and in the centre, have cornices supported by consoles. No. 4, on the left-hand side, is two windows wide. A shopfront was constructed in 1903 by J Foster, stepped forward and featuring a central door flanked by plate glass shop windows with curved upper corners. The fascia is supported by moulded consoles. No. 5 is three windows wide, with only the left-hand bay being curved. The left-hand bay on No. 5 has a six-panel door, overlight, and entablature with a panelled pilaster to the right. A cast iron balcony with roundels, fronting the windows, is supported by a projecting 20th-century shopfront.

The interiors were inspected by Bath Council in 1992. These houses are part of Goodridge's Late Georgian development of Cleveland Place and Bridge for the Bathwick Estate.
