Description

Our Lady of Sion Convent is a building located on Crescent Road, constructed in 1864 as part of a unified design with the adjacent church attributed to H. Clutton. The convent is two storeys high and made of plum-red brick, featuring two pairs of dark brick bands. The east range of the convent extends south along the street from the church's west end and includes five sash windows, a semi-circular staircase projection, and two additional sash windows to the south. At the southern end, there is a cross-range that projects towards the street, featuring a round-arch opening made of banded brick with a faintly pointed drip-mould above. This opening leads to an internal porch decorated with geometric tiles. To the left of the porch, there is a chimney that is partly external and corbelled out over a narrow buttress. The roofs are covered with red tiles, and the brick eaves nogging is also applied to the gable end. Additional ranges of the convent extend towards Our Lady of Sion School, which is located to the west. The convent forms a group with St Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Richmond Road and No. 39 Richmond Road.
