Description
Broad Oak is a building dating from around 1870 to the 1890s, now part of a convent. It is 2½ storeys tall and constructed of red brick, featuring stone bands at the plinth, ground floor lintel, and first floor cill. The building has stone dressings and coped verges, with ball finials on the kneelers. Its asymmetrical plan includes two slight end gable breaks and an additional gable to the right. The structure has five bays in total, with a two-storey bay on the left that contains a triple lancet window and an oculus-type stair window to the left of centre. There is a thicker panel of masonry framing the arched entrance, which has "Broad Oak" inscribed in relief on the lintel, and three snail foiled lights above it. The two windows on the right feature mullion and transom designs. The roof is tiled and includes Joseph Morris-type dormers with two gables, triangular moulded verges, and two lights. The interior is not particularly remarkable, featuring a tiled hall with a staircase on the left, an unusual balustrade with pendants, and chimneypieces from around 1890 that have pigeon-holes above the mantels.
