Description
Stanhope Lodge and Stanhope Store are located on Arundel Road in Clapham. Stanhope Lodge consists of a house and an outbuilding, which was likely originally a stable and is now in separate ownership. The house features a northwest wing from the 18th century and a southeast wing from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond for the northwest wing and in Flemish bond with blue brick headers for the southeast wing, topped with a tiled roof and end brick chimneystacks. The building is two storeys high and has three horizontally sliding casement windows on the northwest side, with cambered head linings on the ground floor. There is a central doorway framed by a moulded architrave and topped with a projecting cornice on console brackets, with double doors to the right that likely originally served as a carriage entrance. A 19th-century clockface is located at the extreme right. The southeast wing is a set-back addition with one bay, featuring a sash window with horns and 20th-century garage doors. The rear elevation has five sash windows. Stanhope Store, attached to the right of Stanhope Lodge, is a one-storey outbuilding made of flint with red brick lacing courses and a tiled roof.
