Description
Numbers 11, 12, 13, and 14 Montague Place are a group of four houses built between 1802 and 1805. They are four storeys high, with numbers 11 and 12 having an attic and numbers 12 and 13 a semi-basement. The facades are stuccoed and curved, each with a window of three lights. Numbers 11 and 12 retain one additional window above the doorway. A cornice with modillions runs along the front of the building, though number 14 has a parapet and lacks modillions. Iron balconies are present on the first floor, though the one belonging to number 14 is missing. Numbers 12 and 14 originally had hoods above these balconies. The doorways are round-headed, and the original glazing bars are largely intact, except for the ground floor of number 13. Modern shop fronts have been added to numbers 11 and 14, while number 12 retains its original appearance with intact ground floor glazing. The balcony at number 12 features a hood supported by thin wooden columns. The recessed round-headed doorway at number 12 rises five steps and features a semi-circular fanlight above a six-panel moulded door, with the upper panels cut away and glazed. Number 13 has lost some ground floor glazing bars and has had its window slightly enlarged downwards. It retains the same door design, but its balcony lacks a hood. Numbers 10 to 14 form a notable group.
