Description

The building comprises Nos 2 to 7, Nos 12 to 16, Nos 17 to 24 and the Steyne Hotel. It dates from circa 1807 and is a four-storey building with a basement and area. The facade has three windows each. The building is constructed of white brick, with a stringcourse above the ground floor. A cornice with modillions is above the third floor, surmounted by a parapet. Iron balconies are present on the first floor. Some glazing bars are missing, particularly on the ground floor. Rectangular fanlights are above the doorways. The Steyne Hotel has undergone substantial alterations; the ground floor of the east front has been stuccoed and rusticated, with windows set within surrounds. The south front, which faces the sea, was entirely refaced in the mid-19th century, featuring two bays of three windows each. The return facade on Warwick Street is listed separately under that heading.
