Description
Cromwell House is a Grade II* listed building located on the south side of High Street. It consists of two parts. The right side features exposed timber framing with two storeys, the upper storey overhanging and likely reduced in height. It has original bays and oriels supported by enriched modillion brackets, along with moulded transoms and sills. The roof is tiled and dates from the 19th century, and there are three 19th-century timber-framed dormers. An original brick stack with three flues is present. The left side has two storeys of lower painted brick, with the upper storey overhanging and timber-framed. The casements and bay windows have been restored or renewed, and part of the roof is covered with Horsham slabs. There is also part of the original brick stack remaining. At the rear, there is a large projecting wing with overhanging upper floors and a gable. Cromwell House is part of a group that includes Ye Dorset Arms Hotel, Dorset House, Nos 66 to 76 (even), and Nos 82 to 88 (even).
