Description
The Old Lock Up, built around 1830, was designed as a combined town gaol and residence for the Town Constable. The building features two parallel ranges and is constructed of red brick with some vitrified headers. It has two gables with stone coping and a tiled roof. On the first floor, there are two casement windows with cambered head linings. The ground floor includes one sash window with glazing bars and a cambered head lining, along with a diamond-shaped opening on the right side that has an iron grille, which was the entrance to the cell. The doorcase is simple, with a studded door and a modern weather hood supported by brackets. The building holds historical interest.
