Description
Amherst House and the Annexe to West Sackville House are located at 66 and 68 High Street. Originally three separate buildings, they are now occupied as one. Amherst House features an exposed timber frame with plaster filling and is two storeys high, consisting of four bays, with the lower two bays restored and partially reconstructed. It has a 17th century moulded wood door head and a part Horsham slab roof. The Annexe also has an exposed timber frame and plaster filling, is two storeys tall, and has restored wood casements and a tile roof with two dormers. Sackville House is two storeys high, with an exposed timber frame and plaster nogging, and has renewed casements and an overhanging upper storey. Its rear wing is timber framed and it features a Horsham slab roof with four 19th century dormers. The buildings are part of a group that includes the Dorset Arms Hotel, Dorset House, and other nearby properties.
