Description

Nether Walstead is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations from the 19th century and extensions from the 20th. The original section is two storeys and has an attic, with two sets of dormers, and is three bays wide. The front is weather-boarded with a red brick base, while the rear elevation is red brick, featuring a narrow, three-storey gabled projection. Modern extensions are located to the west and as an L-shaped wing to the north; these match the original in being weather-boarded and set on red brick plinths, or red brick to ground floor level. Windows throughout the building are casement windows. A large brick chimney breast is located at the east end, with smaller chimneys at the western end of the original portion, plus two further chimneys in the later 19th and 20th century sections. The roof is tiled. The interior was not inspected. This house is designated at Group Value II for its architectural interest as a good example of a 17th or earlier house.
