Description
Paynes Place is an L-shaped house that is part of a larger building constructed by the Pain family. The east-west wing is a 16th-century timber-framed structure, which is now fronted with painted brick on the ground floor and tile-hung above. It features a tiled roof with a pantice behind and has casement windows. The house has two storeys and three windows, with one additional window-bay added at the west end. At the east end, there is a massive red brick chimney breast with a half crow-stopped gable on the north side. The north wing dates from the 17th century.
