Description
Upper Ridges Moonhill Place is a house located in Cuckfield, likely dating from the early 17th century. It is a two-bay house with an end chimneystack, which was originally external but was refaced in the 18th century. The building features timber framing, with the exterior now clad in red brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor front, and tile hung above. The left side is finished in brown brick in English bond, with a chimney breast in red brick set on a base of sandstone, while the right side elevation is also in brown brick in Sussex bond. The first floor is weatherboarded. The roof is newly tiled, half-hipped with gables to the right and an end brick chimneystack to the left. There is an outshut at the rear. The house is two storeys high and has two windows, featuring 19th-century wooden casements and a 20th-century half-glazed door. A plinth is present at the base of the building.
Inside, there is a brick fireplace with a cambered head on the left side and a cambered opening above it. The interior also includes a chamfered spine beam and a late 18th-century six-panelled door, along with a 17th or 18th-century window staircase. The right side room has a plank door, while the outshut contains a 17th-century four-plank door and visible box framing on the sandstone plinth. The west bedroom, which was not seen, also has exposed framing.
