Description
The barn located to the north of Forsyth's Farmhouse dates from the 17th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a plinth made of brick and sandstone, with a roof covered in stone slates and old tiles. The barn consists of three bays with a central threshing floor. On the west side, there are double doors situated between two projecting outshoots, while the east side features two large cart doors. The south gable is made of brick and has a datestone from 1725 above an owl-hole. The roof is half-hipped. Inside, the barn has a substantial timber frame with jowled posts that clasp the wall plate, slightly arched tie beams with struts, and a queen-post roof with clasped purlins. The rafters are pegged at the apex, and there is a substantial lower wall frame with curved wind-braces.
