Description
The Tennis Court and Orangery at Crabbet Park, built around 1900, dates from the time when the Crabbet Club was active in the house. The tennis court features nine bays constructed of red brick, with each bay flanked by stone pilasters. It has a stone balustraded parapet and a hipped tiled roof.
On the north side, the orangery, also consisting of nine bays, extends beyond the tennis court at a lower level. It includes round-headed double French windows with semi-circular fanlights set within stone architrave surrounds, and each bay is flanked by stone Tuscan half-columns. The orangery has a balustraded parapet with solid sections over the half-columns, topped with ball caps and a balustraded parapet in between. A prominent feature is the deep curved portico with six stone columns that projects further north.
To the west of the tennis court, there is an additional section of the orangery in a similar style, but it lacks round-headed windows and is currently roofless with no glass in the windows. To the east, there is a red brick section comprising three bays.
