Description

Keeper's Cottage is a woodman's cottage dating from the early 19th century, with a mid-19th century extension added above a catslide roof. The main section is constructed from dressed sandstone blocks with lime mortar and features red brick dressings. It has a brick porch with a tiled roof and a central brick chimney stack. The extension over the catslide is weatherboarded and also has a tiled roof.

The cottage is one storey with attics and has two windows. The front elevation includes two small triangular dormers with leaded lights, finials, and pendants. Below these, there are leaded light casements with cambered heads and drip moulding. The central projecting gabled brick porch is built in stretcher bond and contains a single casement with drip moulding, with the entrance located on the side.

On the right side elevation, there is a Dutch door in the catslide, while the left side elevation features a blocked doorcase in the corresponding position. The rear elevation has a painted brick base with two casements that have diamond-shaped leaded lights. The weatherboarded storey above the catslide includes two small 20th-century casements, a 19th-century casement with a leaded light in the center, and leaded light casements in the end gables. The interior reportedly has Horsham slab floors and original fittings. The cottage is situated in the center of ancient Sussex deciduous woodland.
