Description
56 High Street is a Grade II listed building located in Steyning. The front section of the building is a medieval timber-framed hall house that was refronted in the 18th century. The timber framing with brick infilling is visible on the south-east wall. The building has two storeys and features four windows, painted brick, a parapet, and a Horsham slab roof. The glazing bars are intact, and there is a doorway with a flat hood supported by carved brackets. Inside, there is a crown post roof. At the rear, there is a timber-framed wing that is at right angles to the front part, with exposed timber framing and red brick infilling on the first floor of the north-west wall. This wing was originally a separate medieval hall house, also featuring a crown post roof, which has since been joined to the front section.
