Description
Ifield Water Mill, built around 1817, incorporates a date plaque from 1683, marking a flour mill that was established on the same site, previously an iron works. The lower storey is constructed of brick, while the two upper storeys and attic are made of timber, weatherboarded and painted white. The building features a low pitched roof covered with Welsh slates, with projecting eaves supported by paired brackets. Each gable end has a Venetian window. On the north side, there is a projecting hoist, and two restored sash windows with glazing bars. The main cast iron framework of the water wheel is still present, although there was no internal machinery at the time of the last survey in 1980, though plans for restoration were in place. A date stone with the initials "16 TMM 83" is attached to the north hall near the north-west corner.
