Description

This is a group of terraced houses forming part of the early 19th century Somerstown suburb. The street is composed of two terraces, predominantly with one bay and two storeys.

Nos. 1 to 5 are two storeys high and have one window each. They feature grey brick headers and red brick dressings. Sash windows are set in reveals within flat arches, with original glazing bars largely intact, except at No. 2. The windows have painted rubbed brick voussoirs above. Doorways have Doric pilasters and pediments, and the original six-panel moulded doors with cut-out top panels remain at Nos. 1, 4, and 5. No. 2 has a modern door.

Nos. 6 and 7 are three storeys high and are constructed of red brick. They have sash windows, the glazing bars of which are mostly missing except on the second floor. Both houses bear a fire insurance company mark.

Nos. 8 and 9 are similar in appearance to Nos. 1 to 5, with grey brick headers and red brick window bays and dressings. These windows are set in slightly segmental arches, with rubbed brick voussoirs above. A shared entablature and rectangular pediment tops the doorways of Nos. 8 and 9.

Nos. 1 to 18 and 22 to 40 together form a group of buildings that complement each other.
