Description

Nos 45 to 48 and Nos 48A and 49 on North Street are buildings from the 18th century and early 19th century. They are either three storeys or two storeys with an attic. The highest fronts are at Nos 45 and 46, both of which share the same roof span, featuring a red tiled roof and a dentilled eaves cornice.

No 45 is made of painted brick and has two window bays with sash windows that have flush boxes in flat arches. The painted brick voussoirs are visible, and the glazing bars are intact only on the second-floor windows. The ground floor has a modern shop front. No 46, constructed from red brick, has one window bay and a later 19th-century shop front on the ground floor with a modern doorway.

No 47 has a front of the same height but features a lower slate roof. It has one window, with the second-floor window set much lower. This red brick building has a small early 19th-century shop front, a square oriel bay supported by iron brackets, and a small fascia above. The door is panelled with the upper part glazed.

Nos 48, 48A, and 49 share the same roof span and have a lower frontage and ridge line, consisting of two storeys and an attic. They have a tiled roof with half hips and three dormers, two of which are hipped. The brick dentilled eaves cornice is present. Nos 48 and 48A are made of red brick and have three sash windows, although the glazing bars are missing. They feature rubbed brick voussoirs, and No 48 has a recent shop front and doorway. No 49 is cemented and has one window bay with a sash window that includes margin lights. The ground floor has a plate glass shop window, and the fascia continues over the fanlight to the doorway, which is a panelled door with the upper part glazed.

Nos 35 to 49 form a group.
