Description

SOUTH STREET 1. 972 (East Side) Nos 74 & 75 SU 8604 NW 4/87 II 2. C18 fronts to both; No 75 dated 1709. No 74 of 3 storeys. Tiled gabled roof. Brick dentilled cornice below eaves. Red brick. 2 window bays. Sash windows with flush boxes; glazing bars intact, lst floor windows with segmental headings and rubbed brick voussoirs. Late C19 plate-glass shop front flanked by pilasters; cast iron columns and entablature. No 75 has a higher frontage and a much higher ridge-line than No 74. Tiled roof with hip at north end. Coved cornice. Red brick. Sash windows with flush boxes in flat arches with glazing bars intact. 1 window on 2nd floor and 4 blocked (with grey headers). Plaque with date 1709 on this floor. 2 windows and 3 blocked window openings on 1st floor; rubbed brick voussoirs to all. Attractive mid C19 shop front on ground floor. Areas of plate-glass flanked by pilasters alternating with stuccoed rusticated areas of similar size. Continuous fascia to No 74 and similar height to pilasters. North side of No 75 has frontage of similar height and style. 1 window bay only; windows in reveals. 1 dormer window with hipped tiled roof.
