Description
The Shrubbery is a mid-19th century building located on Upper Bognor Road. It is designed in a picturesque style and features a stucco front. The building has two storeys and a semi-basement, with a three-window projection on the left side. On the right, there is a two-storey bay window with three lights. The central section has a tripartite design, complete with a bracketed, dentilled cornice above a four-panel door and flanking windows, which rise to a pediment in the center. The windows are adorned with moulded stucco surrounds and have glazing bars in the upper sashes only. There is a drafting across the ground floor, between stringcourses, and slender paired brackets support the deep eaves. A stucco balustrade surrounds the terrace in front of the doorway and the curved steps on either side. The west end features a bay window, while the north side has a staircase projection with a large round-headed window. The roof is hipped and covered with slate. The Shrubbery is part of a group that includes Nos 41 to 57 (odd), No 55A, and Nos 65 to 71 (odd), along with all the surrounding walls.
