Description

The Old School House is a circa 18th-century school house, now converted into three houses, built in a neo-Gothic style. It is located in Shoreham-by-Sea, on the south side of St Nicholas Lane in Old Shoreham. The building is constructed with coursed cobble on a cement plinth, brown brick quoins, and painted window dressings, possibly of stone. It has plain tiled roofs with gable-parapets and several skylights. The building has a cruciform shape with two wings facing east, each featuring uncut plaques in the gables. It is a single-story building with garrets, and has tall plate traceried windows only under the gables. A trefoil window is located in the garret to the north. Various doorways have been added since the conversion. A small pointed window is on the east side of the north section, and there are several additions to the west. The building is included on the heritage list for its group value.
