Description

Matthews Place is a house dating to the 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and is faced with galleted sandstone rubble, featuring brick dressings and a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and a substantial, multiple-flue ridge stack located to the right of the centre. Brick angle quoins are visible, along with four recessed windows to the first floor, above which are tile-hung eaves gables. Four windows are present on the ground floor, each with a cambered head. A doorway is now situated on the left-hand return front, while the original entrance, located beneath the stack, has been blocked. 20th-century extensions have been added to the rear.
