Description
The Sham Bridge to Middle Pond is an 18th-century bridge made of sandstone rubble. It features an imitation design with 11 arches and slab voussoirs, positioned atop a weir that directs water into the lower pond, gently rising in the center. This bridge is part of a landscape garden created by Philip Cartaret Webb between 1748 and 1770, reflecting the Romantic tradition. The garden is noted in "Neales: Seats of the Nobility and Gentry" and is currently recognized as a Garden of Historic Interest in the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest - Part 40 (Surrey) II*.
