Description
The small room and sham ruins at Busbridge Lakes date from the 18th century and are built into the cliffside with a sandstone rubble elevation. The structure features a central door under an arch, flanked by two windows. Inside, the room is circular with a domed ceiling. To the right, the ruins consist of a five-arched screen that leads into a gully, and there are two Romano-British (fake) altar blocks that were originally placed at the bottom of some arches. This building is part of a series of garden ornaments in a Romantic Garden designed by Philip Cartaret Webb between 1750 and 1770. It is also noted in the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Interest in England.
