4/100 Boathouse to Middle 9/3/60 Pond, Busbridge Lakes

GV II

Boathouse. Early C19. Cement rendered with wood mouldings and pantiled roofs. Rectangular boathouse with gable end to lake, roundel in tympanum. Arched opening below with trellis outer walls. Single storey range at right angles to boathouse with three thin columns to front. Planked door and window behind. Small stack to end. Shore front has pedimented gable end with blank panels and two pointed blocked wooden doorways. Interiors:- A boathouse with ashlar quays and rounded end and steps. Room with early C19 marble mantelpieceJ One of a series of landscape buildings in a Romantic Garden created by Philip Cartaret Webb between 1748-1770. Described in Neales "Seats of the Nobility and Gentry". The Garden is now designated a garden of Historic Interest in the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England - Part 40 (Surrey) II*.
