Description
Deanery Cottage is an outbuilding that has been converted into a house, along with an attached wall on the left. It likely dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations, particularly during its conversion to a house in the 1950s. The structure is built of brick with a plain tile roof and stands at one and a half storeys, featuring one by two bays with a gable end. The cottage has 20th-century leaded-light casement windows throughout. A gabled porch projects from the right side, which includes an oriel window and a door on the left return. There is a four-light window on the ground floor and a canted bay window above it. A stack is located in the left roof pitch.
To the left side, there is a single-storey addition built against an approximately two-meter-high brick wall that is topped with tiles and projects from the building, returning to the front in rubblestone with a domed top. The rear of the cottage features paired, chamfered, four-centred brick arches with brick imposts and keystones, a moulded band, a 20th-century three-light window on the first floor, and a tile-hung gable. Inside, there are large-scantling tie beams, with a queen-post truss at the front and a queen-strut truss at the rear, along with clasped purlins and wind braces. This building is associated with the Old Garden Walls, which now belong to No 24 but were formerly part of No 30 (Church House).
