Description
Snowdenham House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations in the late 18th century. The front of the house was re-faced at that time. Originally the front was red brick, but it is now cement rendered, with hipped plain tiled roofs hidden by parapets. The rear wing and the right-hand return front are built of galleted sandstone and brick. The house is two storeys high, set on a plinth, and has a rendered end stack to the right, as well as stacks to the rear and the right-hand side. A plat band runs over the ground floor, and a panelled parapet sits above the first-floor cornice. The right-hand range has five bays, while the centre and left-hand extension both have two bays. The windows are 12-pane, glazing bar sash windows on both floors, with casement doors in the centre of the ground floor on the right. A recessed two-bay range in the centre features two 12-pane glazing bar sash windows on the first floor, and a dentilled bow window on the ground floor. The left-hand range features two 12-pane first-floor sash windows and one 6-pane ground-floor sash window. A flank door, consisting of four fielded panels, with a pilaster strip surround and transome light, is present. Two acanthus leaf capital columns support a flat hood over the door, approached by a flight of four steps. The right-hand return front includes hipped dormers behind the parapet and has four bays with mixed window styles, including two leaded casements and two sash windows. A flat portico to the right features arched openings at either end and Tuscan Doric columns in antis.
