Description
Ballindune and Ballindune Cottage is a building constructed in 1902 by E.J. May. The structure features a shallow V-shaped design with a separate building in front, known as Ballindune Cottage, which is connected by the roof of a porte-cochere. The sides of the house rise two storeys, while the central gabled section has two storeys and an attic that oversails. To the right, there is a one-storey wing.
The decorative elements are created through the use of different colours and textures in the materials, including soft brown brick with brighter red brick dressings. The roofs are fairly high-pitched and tiled, with swept eaves over deep soffits. The windows are oak-framed leaded casements, and there is extensive decorative oak framing throughout, including arch-braced posts and beams at the carriage entrance.
Inside, the theme of detailed oak beams continues, often resting on store corbels. The building features patches of herringbone brickwork and a creative use of varied brick and tile work, with tall diagonal chimney shafts connected by tiled panels. The one-storey wing has gabled buttresses. Ballindune Cottage includes an open timbered porch that features a carved date and initial: R.
