Description
The Causey is a house dating to the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is timber framed, with brick cladding on the lower portion and tile hanging above. The timber frame is exposed on the ground floor to the right, beneath the tile hanging, with the lower courses of tiles swept outwards over the ground floor. It has plain tiled roofs and tile-hung gable ends, and an L-shaped plan with a wing projecting to the left.
The house is two storeys high. A massive multiple stack, deeply corbelled, is located to the right of the centre, with further stacks on the left hand return front of the projecting cross wing. There are three leaded casement windows on the centre of the first floor, and one window on the ground floor. The right hand gable has one leaded casement on the first floor, and a 12-pane glazing bar sash window with shutters below. A three-light leaded casement is situated in the gable end of the projecting wing on the first floor, with two windows below. A further window is located in a pentice to the left end. A door dating from the 18th century, consisting of six panels, provides access via a lobby located to the right of centre, sheltered by a flat hood.
