Description
The lych gate to the Church of St Nicolas was built in 1880 by Mrs. Bradshaw of Knowle in memory of her husband. It is constructed from coursed sandstone blocks and features a plain tiled roof, with a rectangular plan. The gate has three bays, with hooded arched lancets on the north and south sides, alternating with offset buttresses. The gabled ends have trefoil head lancets above a sill course. The north and south sides have corbelled eaves, and there are arched passage entries on the east and west sides. Inside, the roof is of the crown post type, supported by arched stone ribs and carved wall plates. The floor is patterned with six square panels, accented by lighter coloured stone banding.
