Description

Keffolds Farmhouse is a substantial farmhouse, likely dating from the mid-17th century, with a later 20th-century addition. The original house appears to be two bays wide. The roof is hipped and tiled, with a large brick ridge stack featuring rebated front angles, a back centre cornice in multiple planes, and three main flues. The house is timber-framed, with tile hanging on the first floor and coursed rubble walls with red brick dressings below, all now whitewashed. A brick dentil cornice runs along the ground floor. Small, leaded casement windows are present. A modern gabled porch has been added to the right, along with a single-story extension, which was formerly a dairy. The rear elevation is irregular, featuring two gabled dormers breaking the roofline, and some visible posts. The interior reveals extensive exposed timber framing, including in the kitchen and parlour, where chamfered joists are visible, featuring stepped stops to all chamfers. The house contains stout beams, including original examples to both kitchen and parlour fireplaces, along with clear carpenters’ marks, including “crowsfeet” and loop types. A 20th-century wing has an oversailing timber-framed first floor and gable with oriel, set above random rubble.
