Description

The Inigo Jones Gate, located to the north of Peper Harow House, is a gateway built around 1760 by Sir William Chambers. It is constructed from Portland stone and features concave side bays with square Doric pilaster piers at each end, set on plinths. Each pier has three vermiculated blocks, and there are paterae on the entablature. The gate includes arched niches in each bay, adorned with vermiculated rustication. The central arch is topped with a segmental pediment that has a crowning pineapple finial, along with a panel and cartouche within. The pediment is supported by two columns, each featuring three vermiculated blocks.
