Description
Town Bridge is a bridge over the River Wey, built in 1782 by Mr. Gwilt and widened in 1930. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. The bridge features five shallow round arches with shallow, triangular ashlar cut-waters. There are two semi-circular pedestrian retreats on pendant ashlar bases flanking a central corniced ashlar plaque, which is illegible. Blind oculi are located between the outer arches, and there is an ashlar band with a moulded cornice. The parapet has flat ashlar coping, and the end pilasters are topped with 20th-century iron lamp-standards that have decorative braces, although the northern lantern has been removed. The side walls slope down to the end piers.
