Description
The Old Post Office is a house dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with 19th-century extensions to the left and rear. It is timber-framed, with exposed framing on the ground floor set on a rendered plinth and whitewashed brick infilling. Tile hanging above incorporates fishscale and 'club' patterns, with the lower courses canted out over the ground floor. The roof is tiled.
Situated on a corner, the house has three ranges running parallel to the street, with a short cross range connecting the front two. It is two storeys high, featuring a detached stack to the front left and a larger stack to the rear right. A gabled range on the right has a four-light casement window on the first floor and a three-light window below. A smaller gable, slightly left of centre, contains a two-light window on the first floor and a four-light window in a pentice range extending across the ground floor. A further four-light window is located in a gabled extension set back to the left. The central door is positioned in an angle with a ground-floor pentice. The front elevation presents a stack to the left, with thin timber framing exposed on the ground floor and one window on each floor. The building has group value, contributing to the character of the area.
