Description
Bakers Barn is a house dating from the 16th century, with a front added in the late 18th century and alterations made in the 20th century. It has a timber frame with a whitewashed brick front and exposed framing at the rear, featuring a tile-hung gable. The roof is plain tiled, half-hipped at the right end, hipped on the left, and steps down to the left. There is a triple ridge stack to the left of centre and a rear ridge stack to the right of centre, behind an oversailing hip roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a wing at right angles to the right. It is two storeys high, with the left end breaking forward and an irregular arrangement of windows. The first floor has five windows: in the centre and two to the right are leaded casements, while two on the left are sash windows. The ground floor features five windows, including a casement window under a cambered brick relieving arch of a former entrance, with sashes to the centre and right. There is a stable-style door at the corner of the left-hand return front, which is sheltered by a pent roof extension. The rear shows exposed framing and has a catslide extension to the rear right. Inside, much of the framing is exposed, and there is a deep brick fireplace.
