Description
This is a house, originally dating from the 16th century, that was extended and partially rebuilt in the 1897 following a fire, and is now divided into separate dwellings. The front section is timber framed and sits on a brick plinth, with red and blue brick cladding below and tile hanging in a diamond pattern above. Extensions to the right and rear are in a matching style. The roof is tiled with a large, corbelled triple ridge stack to the rear right.
The house is L-shaped with a gabled cross wing set back on the right end. It has two storeys over cellars, with an attic in a bargeboard gable bay to the right. Brick dentilled detailing runs above the ground floor, and the eaves are boarded. The windows are regularly spaced with leaded casements – three on the first floor to the left, and one on the right. A gabled entrance bay is located to the right of centre, featuring a glazing bar sash window on the first floor. A stone plaque bearing the date "1707" is set in the gable. The entrance below has an arched wooden porch with the initials "RC" and "JC" carved into the spandrels. A gabled bay on the right end has an angle bay window on the ground floor.
The rear courtyard elevation features a large gable to the left with a stone-dressed angle bay and a mullioned and transomed leaded casement. A recessed bay is present at the re-entrant angle, containing a pebbledashed square tower with four stages under a pyramidal roof. A pent roof porch is set against stone dado walls, with leaded windows flanking a part-glazed door.
Inside the front range, extensive timber framing is visible, including a central chamfered spine beam and side joists to the ceilings. Deep brick fireplaces with wooden lintels are present, along with an Early Georgian panelled bedroom on the first floor.
