Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with a 16th-century wing and 19th-century extensions. It is timber framed, standing on a rubblestone plinth, with some brick infill and rendering on the first floor. The roof is half hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring Horsham slabs on the lower half and gablets at the ends. There is a ridge stack to the left of center and an end stack to the right. The building is a hall house with an inserted stack that creates a lobby entrance. It has two storeys and three framed bays, with a gable front cross wing to the left that jetties on the first floor. The windows are irregularly arranged leaded casements, and there is a planked door located in the right side of a hipped roof porch to the left of center. To the right end, there is a brick and timber pentice roof extension, and a wing extends at right angles to the rear. Inside, extensive framing is visible along with a deep brick fireplace.
