Description

Rough Beech is a house dating back to the 16th century, with later additions from the 17th and 20th centuries. The left side of the house is timber framed and stands on a brick and stone plinth. The exposed timber frame here is filled in with red and brown brick, while the left side of the ground floor has red and blue brick cladding. The upper part of this side is covered in diamond pattern tile hanging. The roof is tiled and features an offset end stack to the left; there is an oversailing gable towards the centre of the right side. The house is two storeys high. The left side contains a gable-fronted cross wing with irregular casement windows, four on the first floor and five on the ground floor. A ribbed door is located to the right of centre, set within a 20th-century brick porch. The rear of the house has two wings extending at right angles to the front, with an end stack on the right-hand wing. A 20th-century wing is attached to the left. The interior reveals timber framing.
