Description

This bridge, built around 1870, is located on Squires Bridge Road in Shepperton. It is constructed from rough hewn red sandstone blocks, with the ends of the bridge coursed and ashlar used in the center. The bridge features an ashlar balustrade and dressings, and it consists of two arches with half-round cutwaters and tapering end piers. The cornice at the base of the balustrade is adorned with stone dentils. At the ends, there are square, fielded panel newels that support shallow stepped and cambered heads. Each arch has six panels of open turned balusters, with seven balusters in each panel. On the upstream side of the central newel, there is a roundel featuring a cartouche of three swords.
