Description
Luddington House is a mansion, largely dating from 1720, with a 17th-century rear section. The front is of painted stucco, the rear of brick, and the roof is covered with slate. The main house is three storeys high. It sits within an entrance court formed by two symmetrical two-storey wings connected to the main house by quadrant walls. The north (garden) elevation features a shallow central projection.
On the ground floor of the front elevation, a central door is topped by a pediment and a semicircular fanlight. Flanking the door are two semicircular-headed recesses containing small-pane sash windows. Above, the first floor has a central semicircular-headed 12-pane sash window with side lights, and two further 12-pane sash windows on either side. The second floor holds five 6-pane sash windows. A band course runs below the rebuilt parapet. The symmetrical wings each have four 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and four 6-pane sash windows above. A dentil course runs along the brick eaves. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, with lead detailing.
The west extension incorporates a large Palladian window on its first floor, and two sash windows on the second. End elevations are characterised by triple arched recesses. The interior features a central door above which is a 6-pane sash window, with blind recesses above the other windows.
