Description
West End Farm is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating to the late 16th century. It has been altered in the 19th century and restored and extended in the later 20th century. The building is timber framed with square panels and diagonal tension braces. The roof is tiled, with a central brick chimneystack. The layout is L-shaped, comprising a late 19th-century L-wing and a modern extension on the line of an earlier outshot. The front elevation features two 12-pane sash windows with horns, and a central casement window. Other windows are modern casements. A modern, gabled porch, constructed of brick and timber framing with a tiled roof, is centrally positioned. A plank door is set within the porch. A modern projecting bay is situated on the right-hand side elevation, and a similar bay is on the left-hand side elevation. The rear wing is two-storey and painted. The interior retains two 16th-century brick fireplaces with cambered arches, a chamfered spine beam with Lamb's tongue stops, two beams with run-out stops, original wide oak floorboards, some 17th-century plank doors, and a winder staircase which likely retains original treads beneath the wooden ones.
