Description

The Church of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, built in 1859 by E B Lamb, is a Grade II* listed building located on St Jude's Road in Englefield Green. It features graded slate roofs and stone walls with eaves corbels. The church has a rectangular plan, with a north transept balanced by a square tower on the south side. There is a vestry in the northeast corner. The tower is two storeys high with a truncated spire topped by a lead pyramid. It has two-light lancet windows and a door on the south side, along with a buttress and a staircase turret on the west side. The east end showcases a five-light window, with only the central three lights glazed and solid panels below.

Inside, the church has a four-bay nave with arched collar beams and braced purlin roof trusses. Small two-light windows are present, along with two-light dormers in the roof. The walls are constructed with bands of ornamental brick, limestone, and Kentish rag, and the roof is tiled. The east end features a decorated style five-light window with stained glass. The font is made of octagonal Coade stone with ogee profile cusps and tracery. The north transept includes a five-light window and a small rose window in the west wall. There is a stone arch leading to a two-bay chancel, a brass eagle lectern, and an organ located in the base of the tower.
