Description
The Church of St Margaret is a parish church with a 15th-century west tower and the remainder of the church rebuilt in 1854 by E B Lamb. The tower is made of flint and features battlements, with the top section adorned with flushwork decoration and diagonal buttresses. The 19th-century work is designed in the Decorated style, featuring a cruciform plan, constructed of random flint with horizontal stone bands, and topped with a plaintiled roof. Inside, the church is notable for its roof design at the crossing, where diagonal beams converge at two levels and are linked by additional diagonal struts. There is a heavy west gallery and a 13th-century font. The east window, created by Kempe and dated 1897, is also a significant feature. The church is graded II* for its originality of design by an important Victorian church architect.
