Description
This coal tax post, dating from around 1860, stands approximately 3½ feet high. It features a metal, four-legged plinth with a chamfered pier above, a moulded capital band, and a pyramidal top. The front displays a London County Council Shield along with lettering that reads: "24 ' 25 VICT/CAP 42". This post marks the boundary where tax was payable on coal and wine, with the coal tax originating in the 1660s.
