Description
Goodwyns Place is a country house dated 1901, designed by Thackeray Turner. It features a roughcast exterior with tile and stone dressings, topped by a tiled roof. The building has an irregular plan that combines elements of the Arts and Crafts movement with Jacobean and Georgian styles. It consists of two main storeys and dormers. The south front has eleven main bays, with gabled three-storey projections at the first, fifth, and ninth bays from the left. A central arched entrance is present, along with flush framed sashed windows that have glazing bars, except for the gabled projections, which mainly feature mullioned and transomed windows. The house has a modillion cornice and a hipped roof, with a tall chimney located at the inner angle of the southwest projection. Some dormers have been added. The other elevations are also notable, particularly the north side, which includes mullioned and transomed windows. Inside, the house retains original panelling and a fine staircase with turned and twisted balusters.
