Description

Burford Lodge is a house dating to 1777, with a later extension. It is constructed of cemented material and has a slate roof. The house is two storeys high and features five canted window bays and a single square window bay projecting through the full height of the building. A parapet runs along the top, with bands marking the first and second floors. The parapet includes recessed panels, and originally featured ball finials surmounting the projecting angles of each window bay. The window bays contain 5 lights in four bays, three lights above the doorway, and 7 lights in the westernmost bay. Casement windows are located in the eastern section, while the westernmost bay has sash windows. The front door incorporates glazing in the upper portion and side lights, all set within a segmental arch. The doorway is flanked by Ionic columns standing on a plinth, topped with an entablature. A fine geometrical staircase is located within the house. A photograph and an early drawing are held in the National Monuments Record.
