  1. All, 3 are incorporated within the same building. Originally called the Fox and Hounds Hotel. Long L-shaped early C19 building. 2 storeys. 12 windows. Faced with roughcast. Slate roof. Glazing bars intact. The north wing of 5 windows, which projects, has a gable in the centre. Modern verandah on the ground floor. Nelson stayed here his last night in England on his way to Portsmouth before Trafalgar. Keats wrote the last part of "Endymion" here in 1819. Hazlitt also stayed here. Adjoining on the south are contemporary stables. 2 storeys. 5 windows. Painted brick. Tiled roof. Modern windows. Coach-house projection in the centre with a gable over. At the southern end is a C17 barn used as a dining room. This was originally at Abinger and was re-erected here in 1934 by the late Lord Faver. Photograph in NMR.
