Description
No. 97 South Street is an early 19th-century building that stands two storeys high with a basement and features seven windows. The exterior is finished in stucco and has an eaves cornice along the top. The roof is slate, and there are two three-light bays on both floors, each topped with hipped roofs. The lower halves of the windows are missing glazing bars.
At the front, there is a well-crafted iron trelliswork porch that is accessed by six steps and has a tent-shaped canopy above it. To the north of this porch, there is another doorway, also at the head of six steps. This doorway is flanked by a narrow window on each side and is supported by Doric pilasters with brackets above. These brackets and pilasters hold up a cornice and parapet that features a scrolled panel in the centre.
